The Narrows ZION – will we survive?

Will we survive The Narrows hike in Zion National Park? That was the question in our head throughout the hike! LOL.

So we set off as prepared as would could be, with a walking stick ($10) rented from Zion Outfitters store at the Zion Visitor’s Center, our water shoes (link below), light jacket and lunch, and enjoyed a beautiful 7.5 hour hike up the Virgin River in Utah. This hike is called The Narrows because it’s a slot canyon that gets more and more narrow. You need to check the weather before you do this hike and be weary of any flash flood warnings. We recommend staying inside Zion so you can get an early start to beat the crowds. It’s best to call the park to check if the shuttle service is running the day you visit. Do not wear light sandals for this hike, you will tear up your feet or slip and twist or break your ankle! I wouldn’t recommend this long hike for kids or to try to carry babies on your back, you’l probably slip and hurt yourself. And, there are no restrooms on the trail.

With great September weather, we endured about 3.5 hours of this ‘bottom up’ hiking trail, crossing countless times across the river, some parts waist deep, and you’ll need to watch through video to see if we survived! LOL. It’s definitely a bucket-list hike you’ll need to do at least once in your life to feel complete. If you can’t, well just watch our video! We filmed the whole way, but clipped the best parts for the video. Please let us know if you’ve hiked this one, leave us a comment and Subscribe to help our channel grow ♥ thanks!

Horseshoe Bend PAGE, Arizona AWESOME SUNSET

Toly was ★COMPELLED★ to see the sunset at Horseshoe Bend Overlook in Page, AZ in the fall (autumn). September is a great month to go here, so we drove about 2 hrs 15 mins east of Zion National Park and into Page, Arizona (just below Lake Powell). Just off the 89S, there is a fairly sized parking lot for visitors of the Horseshoe Bend ($10 parking fee). After parking, we hiked down the trail for about 15mins to the Horseshoe Bend Overlook (basically, the edge of a 1000’ cliff). Quite a few people gathered together around the edge in an almost spiritual way, for the special event, the evening’s sunset. Below, we could see a spectacular view of the Colorado River below which wraps around in a horseshoe shape. We found our spot, snapped our selfies and favorite shots of the Horseshoe Bend and setup to relax and enjoy the peaceful and reflective moments before the sunset. It was beautiful. It had a special, calming way of making us feel grateful for the day we were given. It’s a place we might return to see again if we are nearby. We hope you enjoy the video. Please leave a comment below if you’ve ever been here, or had some special feelings or thoughts after experiencing a sunset here. Thanks.

Huntington Beach California PIER & Main Street

Huntington Beach is Surf City USA! We wanted to show you Huntington Beach, one of our favorite beaches in Southern California, southeast of Los Angeles where the weather is nice year round. Huntington Beach is known for its long 9.5 mile sandy beach where the coast line is fairly straight for miles. It’s also famous for consistent year long surf conditions, hence named Surf City. Downtown is on Main Street with a lot of fun places to see and go to (bars, restaurants, souvenir and surf shops like Jack’s Surfboards, Volcom, Billabong and Quicksilver). There is a nice International Surfing Museum that displays longboards and other historical memorabilia. The Huntington Beach Pier extends from Main Street and is 1850 feet long. We like to enjoy a walk on the pier, take in sights of the beach and surfers, watch people fishing on the pier, and people watch. Visiting Huntington Beach always has a calming effect, and it also has some of the best sunsets to watch.

Royal Gorge Bridge Park – a MUST VISIT in Colorado

We took a short road trip to the Royal Gorge Bridge Park in Cañon City, about 1.25 hrs south-west of Colorado Springs, Colorado (~2.5hrs South of Denver). It’s a beautiful bridge and amusement park with many interesting attractions within the park. For the general admission, you can: enter the park, visit/cross the Royal Gorge Bridge, enjoy many breathtaking views on the bridge and around the bridge at observation points, take a Aerial Gondola ride 2,200 feet across the Gorge and 1,200 feet across the Arkansas River, you can go to the Plaza Theatre, enjoy the Children’s Playland and Visitor Center. For extra cost you can enjoy: Zipline, a Skycoaster, and rock climb the Via Ferrata.

When we arrived it was clear but cloudy, with no rain. We were hoping we could spend the day to enjoy the park. However, the storm came in half-way across the bridge and the rain started to come down harder. We had to decide whether to keep going across or turn back. We were a little scared to get stuck on the far side of the bridge. But we decided to go for it, and cross the bridge. By the time we crossed, the rain was coming down harder and we needed to look for a place to stay dry and wait out the rain. We went into the Plaza Theatre for a little while to watch a couple of historical movies about the park and also enjoy some exotic bird shows that were presented. After a while we heard that the rain lightened up, but a lightning storm was about 5 mins away. We decided to RUSH back across the bridge to go home. The Royal Gorge Bridge, know as ‘America’s Bridge’ is 1000 feet above the Arkansas river and is one of the world’s highest suspension bridges, and straddles the canyon.

Although we didn’t get to enjoy all the activities at the park due to the winds and rain, they didn’t close, but we decided we’d have to come back someday to enjoy and experience the rest. It seems like, with clear, sunny weather you can probably spend the whole day enjoying all the activities. It really is a beautiful park. I can’t wait to go back again and enjoy the gondola ridge, zip lining, and maybe a little rock climbing on the Via Ferrata. I wouldn’t mind visiting the Beer Garden, bars and restaurants too!

Is Laughlin Nevada Open?

We were curious to know if Laughlin Nevada casinos were open again after the Covid Shutdown, so we decided to take a drive and find out. We went during Memorial Day weekend and checked into our favorite Harrah’s Laughlin Hotel & Casino. People were out and about, gambling, riding their jetskis and boats, our favorite restaurants like El Burro Borracho and Saltgrass Steak House were open. We had a lot of fun doing what we usually do, which is taking the water taxi to the Don Laughlin’s Riverside Resort casino and walking along the boardwalk back, stopping at all the casinos. The next day we drove over to the Bullhead, AZ side and enjoyed lunch at the River Dog Grill, went to the Veteran’s Memorial Park, and flew our drone around a bit before heading back to the Nevada side. So I would say that Laughlin is definitely Open and back in action! and we’re so happy about that! There are so many things to do in Laughlin. Below are some links that might help you plan your visit. Let us know how you like Laughlin in the comments below, and what are your favorite spots.
