Royal Gorge Bridge Park – a MUST VISIT in Colorado

We took a short road trip to the Royal Gorge Bridge Park in Cañon City, about 1.25 hrs south-west of Colorado Springs, Colorado (~2.5hrs South of Denver). It’s a beautiful bridge and amusement park with many interesting attractions within the park. For the general admission, you can: enter the park, visit/cross the Royal Gorge Bridge, enjoy many breathtaking views on the bridge and around the bridge at observation points, take a Aerial Gondola ride 2,200 feet across the Gorge and 1,200 feet across the Arkansas River, you can go to the Plaza Theatre, enjoy the Children’s Playland and Visitor Center. For extra cost you can enjoy: Zipline, a Skycoaster, and rock climb the Via Ferrata.

When we arrived it was clear but cloudy, with no rain. We were hoping we could spend the day to enjoy the park. However, the storm came in half-way across the bridge and the rain started to come down harder. We had to decide whether to keep going across or turn back. We were a little scared to get stuck on the far side of the bridge. But we decided to go for it, and cross the bridge. By the time we crossed, the rain was coming down harder and we needed to look for a place to stay dry and wait out the rain. We went into the Plaza Theatre for a little while to watch a couple of historical movies about the park and also enjoy some exotic bird shows that were presented. After a while we heard that the rain lightened up, but a lightning storm was about 5 mins away. We decided to RUSH back across the bridge to go home. The Royal Gorge Bridge, know as ‘America’s Bridge’ is 1000 feet above the Arkansas river and is one of the world’s highest suspension bridges, and straddles the canyon.

Although we didn’t get to enjoy all the activities at the park due to the winds and rain, they didn’t close, but we decided we’d have to come back someday to enjoy and experience the rest. It seems like, with clear, sunny weather you can probably spend the whole day enjoying all the activities. It really is a beautiful park. I can’t wait to go back again and enjoy the gondola ridge, zip lining, and maybe a little rock climbing on the Via Ferrata. I wouldn’t mind visiting the Beer Garden, bars and restaurants too!

Is Laughlin Nevada Open?

We were curious to know if Laughlin Nevada casinos were open again after the Covid Shutdown, so we decided to take a drive and find out. We went during Memorial Day weekend and checked into our favorite Harrah’s Laughlin Hotel & Casino. People were out and about, gambling, riding their jetskis and boats, our favorite restaurants like El Burro Borracho and Saltgrass Steak House were open. We had a lot of fun doing what we usually do, which is taking the water taxi to the Don Laughlin’s Riverside Resort casino and walking along the boardwalk back, stopping at all the casinos. The next day we drove over to the Bullhead, AZ side and enjoyed lunch at the River Dog Grill, went to the Veteran’s Memorial Park, and flew our drone around a bit before heading back to the Nevada side. So I would say that Laughlin is definitely Open and back in action! and we’re so happy about that! There are so many things to do in Laughlin. Below are some links that might help you plan your visit. Let us know how you like Laughlin in the comments below, and what are your favorite spots.

Laos – Luang Prabang Day 2

Our second full day in Luang Prabang. We’re ready for some more adventure! Today we’re going to Ban Pak Ou to see the Tam Ting Caves. We took a slow boat ride about 30km North on the Mekong River. Did I mention it was slow? Very slow and a little bit chilly we had to use a blanket. Very nice scenery along the way, but after a while we took a nap. It took about 2hrs to get there. Once we arrived, we climbed up many stairs to see the Tam Ting Shrines and caves. Very interesting and beautiful to see. Many parts were nearly pitch dark and we could’ve really used a flash light. But we managed to walk through using the light on our iPhones :) When I saw something interesting, like a shrine, I would take 2 photos with the flash camera. First photo to see what was there with the flash, and second photo to frame the shot better. When we left the caves, looking across the Mekong River I could see elephants walking about.  We would’ve loved to go see them, but we had other plans for the day. When we got back to Luang Prabang, we cleaned up and relaxed at a nice little restaurant right along the riverside and enjoyed a few Beer Laos and watched the sunset. After that we walked around the corner to Sisavangvong Road to explore the night market. We saw many handcrafted goods along the main road, and food markets along the side roads. Another full day of adventure!  We loved it all!

Laos – Luang Prabang Day 1

After arriving in the evening the night before, we woke up refreshed and ready to explore Luang Prabang. Our hotel Luangprabang River Lodge was clean and nice, and served a delicious American-style breakfast every morning which was convenient. We made our way to see so many different temples, the Royal Palace, then onto Kuang Si Waterfall Park. Everything was amazing to see. We also climbed 328 steps up Mount Phousi to That Phousi at the top, where there were beautiful panoramic views in every direction overlooking the city. A lot of walking for one day. We were definitely getting our exercise!

Laos – Phou Khoun and Luang Prabang

After enjoying our stay in Vang Vieng, we made our way North toward Luang Prabang. After driving about 5hrs 15mins North, we took a rest at Phou Khoun, and enjoyed some awesome mountain views. We continued on for another 1hr 15mins, about 7hr total drive, and arrived at Luang Prabang when it was dark. We were so tired from the drive and hungry, we didn’t do much but walk down the night market once and to the locals food alley to find some good food to eat. We were excited to rest up for the next day’s adventures.
